United Airlines’ 10 Longest Routes From Denver International Airport

Summary

  • United Airlines operates its longest-haul routes from Denver to destinations such as London, Frankfurt, and Tokyo.
  • Flights to Hawaii and Puerto Rico are currently the longest domestic routes from Denver, with Lihue services taking eight hours.
  • The longest international service is to Tokyo and is scheduled to take over 12 hours onboard United Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet.

As the largest operator at Denver International Airport (DEN), United Airlines offers flights to over 170 destinations across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. However, just three routes make the transatlantic hop, and only one reaches Asia.

Of its ten longest-haul routes scheduled in January, half are international, with the other five connecting to the US’ furthest states and unincorporated territories.

Denver Is United Airlines’ Busiest Hub By Flights But Not For Long

It is expected to lose the throne in April.

10 Juan Santamaría International Airport, San José

Departing twice a week, flights to San José (SJO) take just over five hours from its hub in Denver. Services are scheduled to leave for the Costa Rican capital city on Fridays and Saturdays, with the return service turning around the following morning. At around 2410 miles, United Airlines frequently utilizes its medium-haul Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets on the route.

9 Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, San Juan

Edging out San José by about 200 miles, United Airlines’ service to San Juan (SJU) is currently its longest route out of Denver. The service is usually operated daily, with the carrier deploying a mix of 737 variants. Amid the grounding of the 737 MAX 9 across the US, around 21 flights may be affected.

8 Kahului Airport, Kahului

Between Denver and Hawaii’s second busiest airport, Kahului (OGG) on Maui, United Airlines’ direct service takes around seven and a half hours. Due to Denver’s place as a major hub and continued demand for flights to the tropical island, the carrier operates flights daily using its widebody Boeing 777 jets.

7 Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, Kona

With a similar flight time to United Airlines’ Maui service, flights to Kona (KOA) are in equally high demand. Flights depart Denver daily at 11:55 MST, arriving on the island of Hawai’i at 15:27 HST, with United Airlines deploying its 777s.

6 Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu

As Hawaii’s busiest airport and a hub for the surrounding islands, Honolulu (HNL) is unsurprisingly one of United Airlines’ busiest routes out of Denver, operating up to twice a day during peak travel periods. The route sees United Airlines’ 777 widebodies on daily services, with additional capacity propped up by its Boeing 757-200s. Flights take around seven and a half hours, in line with United Airlines’ other Hawaii-bound services.

5 Lihue Airport, Lihue

In fifth place, Lihue (LIH) is United Airlines’ longest domestic route from Denver. Flights between the two airports come in at just under eight hours onboard United Airlines’ 757-200s, departing up to twice a day.

4 London Heathrow Airport, London

United Airlines’ daily services from London Heathrow (LHR) are currently the only direct flights from Denver to the United Kingdom. The route is currently the airport’s third busiest international destination and is also served by British Airways, which offers slightly fewer frequencies than United Airlines. If you’re flying with the carrier on this service, you can expect to be seated on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets for the duration of the nine-hour flight. Enjoy that new Polaris interior.

3 Frankfurt Airport, Frankfurt

Denver’s second busiest destination is United Airlines’ third longest route from the airport. Frankfurt (FRA) operates daily, with flights taking nine and a half hours onboard United Airlines 787-9s. The service is surprisingly quicker than Lufthansa’s competing flight, which will take around ten hours.

2 Munich Airport, Munich

Traveling slightly further south than Frankfurt, United Airlines flights to Munich (MUC) take nine hours and 45. The carrier operates two weekly services to Munich from Denver; however, a codeshare agreement with Lufthansa allows daily flights to connect the two cities. If you’re flying with United Airlines, expect a 787-9, and if you’re on Lufthansa, you’ll be seated onboard one of its new Airbus A350-900 widebodies.

1 Narita International Airport, Tokyo

As the only direct connection into Japan from Denver, United Airlines’ Tokyo (NRT) service is currently its longest route out of the airport. Flights are operated daily onboard United Airlines 787-9 fleet and take 12 hours and 15 minutes. Bring an eye mask; you’ll be in for the long-haul.
