How Long Before Your Flight Should You Arrive At The Airport?
Which Airlines Offer The Best Special Meals?
Airlines are increasingly investing in innovating with their special meals. Whether you are lactose intolerant or adhere to a certain diet because of religion, most major carriers have something on the menu for you. However, some dishes are more innovative than others. As someone with a gluten intolerance, I’ve had my fair share of hits and misses over the years. In business class, the likes of Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways stood out to me. In economy, TUI pleasantly surprised me with its chicken curry offering. Which airlines have impressed you with their special meals over the years? Let us know below!
What Needs To Be Done To Mitigate The Impact Of Airport Climate Protests?
Yesterday, Frankfurt Airport’s operations were thrown off course after protestors cut the fence and glued themselves to operational areas of the airport, creating a safety risk for aircraft. We have seen many such protests in the last few years, and it doesn’t look like they will stop overnight. Harsh penalties are already being sought to deter such actions, but there have also been calls for greater airport security at German Airports. Flying back to Frankfurt yesterday, I saw the fallout firsthand. My aircraft landed late at 23:15, and I saw many people sleeping wherever they could and signs to a makeshift camp. What do you think the solution to mitigate the impact of some protests are? (Photo: Fraport)
What Do You Think Of Tracking Baggage With Personal Trackers Such As Apple’s AirTags?
More and more travelers are placing tracking devices into their baggage following negative press about lost and delayed luggage over the past few years. Personally, I always travel with an AirTag in all of my bags. On my most recent trip to Frankfurt, having my AirTag meant that I knew it was in Frankfurt and was able to collect it when Lufthansa hadn’t even located it. I’ll write a story to go into more depth soon… In the meantime we want to know what you think about passengers travelling with AirTags and equivalent trackers. Let us know your thoughts below! Is It Just Difficult Terrain That Causes So Many AIr Crashes In Nepal?
This week, another tragic air crash in Nepal claimed the lives of 18 people. Since 2000, more than 360 lives have been lost in accidents involving airplanes or helicopters, but why? According to a 2023 safety report by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), 93% of deaths in air accidents have involved collision with terrain or another object. Nepal has many mountains and a number of airports that use ‘tabletop’ runways, with sheer drops at one or both ends. However, it’s not only the terrain that causes challenges for aircraft operators in the country. An aging fleet means aircraft aren’t always equipped with the safety technology of modern airliners, and in the past, crew training has been brought into question – Nepalese airlines have been banned from entering EU airspace due to their poor safety record. What do you think is the root cause of air accidents in Nepal?
Have You Ever Partaken In A ‘Runway Run’ Event?
For most of us, we are used to traveling along airports’ runways slightly above the ground in the cabin of an airliner, and, apart from maintenance workers, the idea of actually stepping foot on a runway is little more than a pipe dream. However, at certain times of year, organized fun runs are arranged on (closed) airport runways, giving sports-mad avgeeks the chance to get that little bit closer to the hallowed service. I have twice partaken in such events in Duxford, UK, and have heard of others at Aberdeen Airport and New York JFK. Have you ever been involved in one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
What Is The Most Comfortable Business Class On Transatlantic Flights?
Extra legroom, lie-flat beds, lounge access, and onboard champagne are all incentives to pay for business class over the Atlantic Ocean. With strong political and enterprise ties on both sides of the pond, the business cabin is usually full on transatlantic flights. When it comes to business, I’ve only had the chance to fly on United’s Polaris product when flying to the US. It was comfy and allowed for several hours of sleep on a hop to Washington Dulles. Which other products are the best for comfort? Let us know below!
