Willard, several Central IL airports suspending flights due to ice

SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — Willard Airport is suspending flights Monday morning due to freezing rain.

“Due to freezing rain and icing conditions, operations are currently suspended on the airfield.” Officials wrote on Fly Champaign-Urbana Facebook page. “Our maintenance crews are working hard to de-ice the airfield.”

Airport officials ask travelers to check with their airline for flight status and updates.

According to its flight tracker on its website, three flights arriving at Willard and three flights departing from Willard for Monday have been cancelled.

American Airlines has cancelled a flight scheduled to arrive at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield at 1:52 from Chicago and a flight that was scheduled to depart to Chicago at 2:18.

Two flights have been cancelled and three have been delayed from departing Central Illinois Regional Airport in McLean County. Delta has cancelled one flight and delayed another arriving at Central Illinois Regional Airport.

Amtrak has also cancelled several trains Monday from Chicago to Carbondale that have stops in Champaign, and more trains from Chicago to St. Louis that stops in Springfield.

Champaign MTD has rerouted several routes. Sangamon Mass Transit District has suspended service in Springfield for all routes for Monday. The city of Decatur has also suspended bus service for the day.
