Dubai Travel Advisory: Airlines Warn Of Delays Even As Weather Improves
Heavy rains may have subsided in Dubai, but the aftereffects are still causing travel disruptions. Passengers flying out of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) are advised to be prepared for potential flight delays and increased traffic congestion because of inclement weather. Airlines in Dubai have issued a travel advisory urging passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
Dubai travel advisory: Arrive at the airport earlier than usual
Emirates, Dubai’s flagship carrier, and Flydubai, its low-cost sister airline, have issued travel advisories urging passengers to arrive at the airport significantly earlier than usual. This allows extra time for check-in, security, and potential delays caused by unpredictable weather and traffic conditions.
While the National Centre of Meteorology of UAE reports less severe weather than initially predicted, lingering effects from the recent downpours continue to impact travel across Dubai and other regions. The heavy rain that struck the region between April 16 and April 23, the heaviest in 75 years, significantly disrupted airline operations.
The Gulf Tiger aims to relocate it’s international airport
Dubai International Airport, consistently ranked among the world’s busiest for international travel over the past decade, is nearing its capacity. In 2023 alone, DXB handled nearly 87 million passengers. Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), also known as Dubai World Central, has quickly established itself as a major player in the global travel network, handling 86.9 million passengers in 2023 despite opening just over 13 years ago (June 27, 2010).
To accommodate the ever-increasing passenger traffic and upgrade its infrastructure, Dubai has announced a significant expansion project at DWC. A new $35 billion passenger terminal, five times larger than Dubai International Airport, is planned, aiming to become the world’s largest airport upon completion.
