Tom Dixon, designer, MAISON&OBJET, 2014

Born in Tunisia, Tom Dixon moved to England in 1963.
Infamously self-taught and passionate, his works are included in collections of the world’s most prestigious museums.
Boasting an eclectic career path, this quintessentially British designer has built his universe through intensely diverse and unusual experiences.
He began his career as bass guitarist with the group “Funkapolitan” before teaching himself soldering and discovering a passion for metal – which quickly became his fetish material.
After experimenting with iron, steel, copper and brass, his first success in the 1980’s was the “S” chair designed for Cappellini: a huge hit, the first in a long series. In 1998, Dixon was appointed head of Habitat’s design
department and subsequently became its creative director. Ten years later he set up his eponymous brand in London, a multi-faceted creative studio including showroom, tea salon and restaurant, that reflects his image of merging design and commerce.
The passionate designer recently launched the first in a line of travel clothes and accessories for adidas, designed a Paris restaurant at the Beaugrenelle shopping centre and will unveil his first 340-room hotel next spring – in London of course!
