Salem is a top 10 family-friendly travel destination, according to Yelp

Are you looking for the next great vacation spot to take your kids? Yelp has rated the top 10 family-friendly travel destinations, and it’s full of surprises — including one in Oregon.

Yelp created the rankings based on increases for “family friendly” searches in the cities. At the top of its list is Fredericksburg, Texas.

Yelp calls out Fredericksburg’s small town charm and proximity to Austin and San Antonio. A vineyard, a hike and the Pioneer Museum are among the attractions Yelp recommends.

Salem makes Yelp’s cut with the No. 10 spot on the list.

Our travel reporter Jamie Hale is also a fan of Oregon’s capital as a vacation destination. One attraction that Yelp and Jamie both think highly of is Riverfront Park. It features riverside paths, large grassy areas, a sternwheeler, a carousel, play areas and the Eco-Earth Globe sculpture. There’s also a beautiful pedestrian bridge leading across the Willamette Slough to Minto-Brown Island Park.

The Enchanted Forest in Turner, Oregon, near Salem, has been nominated for Newsweek’s readers’ choice “Best Family-Owned Amusement Park” in the country.

Another attraction that Yelp recommends is Enchanted Forest — Oregon’s favorite fairy-tale-themed amusement park. Yelp calls it “a unique seasonal theme park that will transport you to a storybook world of wonder.”

The other entries in the western United States on Yelp’s list are No. 2 Napa, California; No. 5 Breckenridge, Colorado; and No. 9 San Luis Obispo, California.
